Fall 2012/13 report

Oh I have been waiting for long... for someone to make a report on fall trends. But I am again taking a risk of being first to compile.

Witty Knitty
Knits have been draped, texturized and have different cuts. So been manipulated like woven fabrics.

Asian Invasion
Rich brocades, traditional cuts are the key elements upcoming season.
Truely conquered my heart.

Almighty Vests
or sleeveless jackets are having a big comeback due to its versatility. We can wear them with turtle neck, blouse or on bare skin.

 To be continued...

MBFWRussia Fall 2012-2013

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia ran from 21 till 25th of March and it was spectacular. Not only that designers presented their best, the organizers went public -  they streamed all the shows online.

YeZ by Yegor Zaitsev names his collection Doors into Autumn with soft palette of coordinated colors, and shapes are loud like origami folds and drapes.

Basharatyan injected strong shoulder silhouettes with traditional Balkar accessories and embroideries.

Bunker Z . The girls under the guidance of famous Slava Zaitsev burst with creativity. Love, love, love the knitwear and these 2 first garments are made by an interesting technique, oh, wish to see them closer.

Sabina Gorelik creations are worth of attention of Lady Gaga with mechanical detailing and architectural forms.

Anna Arbelina got inspired by women of 1930s Italy. Strict, elegant and georgeous. I see Monica Bellucci in all the looks.

Borodulins lead us through the history and style of Olga Romanov, young princess, for the second season and we are still not bored with timeless elegance and rich textures.

Dima NEU, new born star, the winner of 1st Project Runway Russia, edited his anatomic collection from the show and completed with some new looks. I feel there are too many ideas in the collection or the designer got a bit overwhelmed.

Viva Vox I am in love with fur pom-pons, so cozy...

Sequin dress

I've never worked with sequin fabrics before and an opportunity came to experiment with it. First I googled how to cut and sew the fabric. It required to use needle for denim, but even that broke when I tried to stitch over bigger sequin black belt.
The main difficulty is that you cannot draw with chalk on any side of the fabric, so placing the darts was a problem.
Another issue was you have to trim the sequins inside the darts, otherwise it will be bulky on it's places. Since you've trimmed them there is no way back, unlike with other fabrics. So be careful.
Sequin fabric from Satwa - 115 dhm per yard
Organza (trail) from Rinco BurDubai - 15 dhm per yard
Black net (trail) from Rinco BurDubai - 4 dhm per yard
Black sequin elastic band from Satwa - 15 dhm per yard

How to wear print in 2012

It can be very overwhelming to wear the busy prints from head to toe. Believe me it's not easy to design patterned garment neither. But the trend is there and consider it for Fall 2012-2013 as well, so better learn it and own it.
If you have got too girly pattern like small flowers, try to add tough accents like body harness, belt and etc. Or revamp old garment with panels of monochromatic fabric/ leather, piping or zipper to add sporty effect.

Experiment it by pairing with :
- boyish garments like shirt and jacket (Altuzarra, Erdem), denim shirt, oversized T-shirt
- dominatrix pieces like leather skirt (Prada)
- add some metal shine (Iceberg)
- always looks sweet with stripes and other graphic prints (colorful print and achromatic graphics or vice versa)

Another trend of the season is to wear the same print all over or pajama trend.

Choose the modern prints like panoramic views, interior, wallpaper, space, tropical paradise or underworld.

As you see printed trousers and jeans are dominating and, yes, it's a huge trend in the summer! I am wishing for Wallis version in animal print :-<

Hopefully I will find similar print in fabric and make my own.

Spring 2012 Couture

Color blue pallete and wing-shaped sleeves of Chanel collection remind me flight attendants, youthful and yet elegant. Did Karl Lagerfeld keep in mind Emirates stewardesses or I really got hooked on TV show "Pan Am"?!
Love the sporty details and in lust for pleated dress, it's just fab.

Wasn't hard to recognize Amy Winehouse in the story of Jean Paul Gaultier's collection. It was a tribute to the bright individuality and style: somethimes boyish, sometimes gypsy with a touch of messy boudoir.

Christian Dior is staying true to Dior's New Look with voluminous skirts and dresses. I particular like the 2nd look, it reminds me an "anatomy" of the garment, where designer show the way it was constructed with underskirts. The entire collection has the feel of undergarments vs outer attire with sheer and transparent layers of tulle.
I bet these garments look good and inside out!

I get crazy about laser cut in general, and Giambatista Valli has it all. Want you to note that the dress (look 3 here) is a tendency in evening wear in monochome with pop up of another color in unexpected places. Angelina Jolie in Golden Globes 2012 will definetely take the trend further.

Valentino brought ladies-in-waiting to the modern times with plenty of embroidery, lace and organza.
As usual very airy, ephemeral collection, but I think the designers challenge embroiderers more than their own creativity, the same goes to Elie Saab

Versace, just WOW! Complicated shapes, but fitted like a glove, that's my understanding of Haute Couture

Office wear 2012

Keeping up with trends 2012 the workwear won't be much different: knee length pencil skirts at the natural waist, textured or graphic printed fabrics and subdued peplums for swinging hips.
Most important is to look sharp and professional as always :)
The favourite colors of the season are deep reds like bodeaux and burgundy. Be careful choosing a right "wine" color that will make you tasty without aging.

Art Week StyleUz 2011

Year by year one of my classmates from the same institute takes part in Fashion Week in my hometown, Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Once I had a chance to see the show and was overwhelmed by the talent and creativity, and there is a catch: all designers present collections made of traditional materials. That's always a challenge to combine folk fabrics and modern trends, make it wearable without looking costumy.
Here are the best looks from the runway, sorry for not knowing which look belongs which designer. But hands up to everyone!
Originally Uzbek fabrics are in vivid color combinations of 4: red, electric blue, green and gold yellow. And as the students we had a hard time imaging designing something out of it. Now when colors got soften and mutted I get inspired by textiles too.

For me the best ikat (traditional print) is ... blue

or even better with a touch of purple

Couldn't imagine even the wedding dress is in the print. Just WOW!

Once again I would say I am very proud of you, guys!
